Intents Beginnings

Intents Beginnings

Technically as I write this post, this blog has not been launched at all yet. Therefor if you are reading this on the 19th February 2014 then there are two possibilities. Either you are a search engine robot trawling the web for content, or you are me.

Who am I? I am Alex Garner, and what you are reading is the very beginning of Intents Offroad, a blog created for those of you who love camping, four wheel driving and other outdoor adventures.

I was born and raised a camper, tenting around Western Australia with my mother and father since before I can remember. The earliest memories involved a four wheel drive and a camper trailer in which myself and two younger brothers were carted all around the country

As many of you are reading this will know, all it takes is one trip and you can be hooked. I soon got into reading my dad’s 4WD Monthly magazines at age 13 and I was destined to be a 4WDer and camper from that point on.

By the time age 18 rolled around I had found a love for photography, although I ended up beginning a career in motor mechanics, followed by ship building, then conservation and land management before finally realising I couldn’t be settled until photography was out of my system. I met a girl and did two years of study alongside her to gain a Diploma of Photography. I am now married to that girl (Alanna) and we run a photography business together (Earthbound Images).

Which brings us to the here and now, and this whole Intents Offroad thing. Since my studies I have photographed and written for a few 4WD and travel publications, but I really want to be able to share a more personal side to my camping, 4wding and outdoors life with you. I want to tell you all that this new camping lantern is so amazing that I lost all ability to see in the dark for a week! Not just a bunch of facts off the box “oooh, 6 million lumens, IP68 water and dust proof!”. I want you to feel that morning ocean breeze flowing straight from my campsite to whichever room you are in, not just read a bunch of details on how to get there. I may even go as far as to say that I want to wake up one morning covered in ant bites, so that you can see the importance of checking the ground before chucking the swag out.

Most of all, I want you to come to this blog to feel all of the adventure, excitement, relaxation and joy of the outdoors life and hopefully be inspired to rush straight out your own door as well.

Alex

Hi Alex Have enjoyed your many trips and tips. Keep doing this for as long as you are enthusiastic and enjoying the experience. Every time I see you and the boys and girls out there enjoying the simple things it enthuses me to plan my next trip to the bush where ever that may be. I am particularly pleased by your simple but poignant and important comments on safety and care, even if at times with a wry smile. This will make many more people look after our wonderful space and place in Western Australia. Cheers David

Hi David, Thanks for the inspiring words mate, and I'm glad the blog and videos are inspiring you too :) Yeah I'm careful not to lecture when I talk about safety and care, nobody wants to be lectured. I figure people are more likely to think and remember it if I present it in an unusual or humorous fashion :D
