How To Perform A Winch Recovery

Winching is something that I won’t pretend to have a whole heap of experience in doing. I don’t yet own a winch! I’ve still managed to run the odd rope, sling a winch damper and play the role of spotter in a recovery; but I wouldn’t call myself an expert in the field.

Winch recovery techniques are a good thing to learn, so it’s great to have someone like Ronny – to teach us how to winch a vehicle. On a recent trip with the crew from 4 Wheeling In Western Australia I laid out plans to create a few how to videos for 4wd recoveries. We were presented with a doozy when Ronny in his 79 series made like a toboggan down a steep and greasy hill. What better time to demonstrate a winch recovery than now?

Because somethings are better explained in motion, I’ve uploaded the video below. Take a look and leave any questions you may have either here or on YouTube, and I’ll do my best to answer them!

Good clip. More people need to learn this stuff. Owning the gear is all well and good but, the safe use of it is what will ensure you and everyone else get home every time.
