GEAR ENVY: Ultimate Ears

GEAR ENVY: Ultimate Ears

Ever heard of, or been to a ‘bush doof’? Basically you take a dance music festival complete with strobe lights, rowdy youth and copious amounts of illicit drugs; and drop it in the middle of nowhere. Kids get wasted, pass out under tree’s, walk off into the dark not to be seen for days and occasionally fall off cliffs.

The reason I’m telling you this is because the Ultimate Ears ‘Boom’ might be mistaken for such an event if not used wisely.

pdp-heroConnect your music loaded device to the Boom via bluetooth or a 3.5mm jack and you are armed with up to 15 hours of playback on a single charge of it’s built in battery. The speaker is designed to throw an even spread of sound no matter which angle you are listening from and with a claimed maximum volume of 88 decibels you sure won’t have trouble hearing it, and neither will the bush doofers…

Other cool features? Well you can link two Boom’s together to play the same track! More sound output and better stereo effect. It is also splash proof, so sit it next to the river or on the beach and the only time you will have to worry is if the thing sinks! It weighs a next-to-nothing 538g and 18cm tall.

You can pick one up with a bit of Googling for between $150 and $200, or head straight to Dick Smith or The Good Guys if you can’t wait around for online delivery.

Happy Listening!

Had my UE BOOM for well over a year now. Been through hell and back. Used in the pilbara, dropped in mud, played tunes whilst it rains. Sound output is great. Batt life is still awesome and no more worry about flattenin the car battery. Highly recommended. Also check out the UE Megaboom. Its big bad boy brother.

Highly recommended piece of equipment, no more tinny laptop sound. I noticed how awesome these speakers were when assisting a mate who's boat had sunk over Christmas, these things are water proof, sound great and are easy to carry around.
